In this course, we are going to look at coaching - and all of the helping professions, for that matter–through a broad lens and decide what they are really about. We are also going to explore what they could be. We are also going to explore and practice the skills involved in problem solving - something every major coaching model preaches as a core competence. We'll also delve deeper into how problems are formed in the first place, and what keeps people stuck. From there we are going to demonstrate and practice ways of helping others make changes that are useful, as well as lasting.

There will be enough of the best NLP models for the most sophisticated user to benefit from and have fun with, but in a way that even the novice will also be able to use and enjoy. This course is for coaches and anyone who helps others to make changes in their work or their life. We're actually going to practice guiding one another using these effective and exciting tools in a way that helps us make real lasting changes - the kind we want to help others with - while learning the processes. Course Goals & Objectives

Participants in this course will:

Learn several views of what coaching is, and what it could be for well-trained practitioners

Compare and contrast coaching models with those from other professions

Explore the deeper aspects of change in individuals and systems to understand what prevents successful changes and what to do about it

Find out how state dependent learning can perpetuate problems, or be used to overcome them instead

Learn and apply the Solution States model for problem solving to coaching practice

Use the SCORE Model of problem framing and intervention

Apply the SCORE and Logical Level Alignment processes together to help gather resources for problem solving and change

Uncover basic assumptions and paradigms that prevent change and learn to replace them with more supportive ones

Learn to map individual systems in a way that uncovers hidden blocks to growth and change

Use some basic modeling processes to uncover valuable resources that can be used to enhance effectiveness, solve problems and reach important goals

Sid Jacobson, Ph.D. was one of the early Certified Trainers by the Society of NLP. Early on he carved out his specialties in the areas of education, training, and writing, in addition to psychotherapy applications, using the latest technology from the rapidly advancing field of Neuro-Linguistic Programming. He has worked as a researcher, trainer, and consultant to professionals, hospitals, schools, clinics, businesses, and professional athletes. As well as serving on several local boards of directors he served as the 1995-1996 Director of the Neuro-Linguistics Forum in the American Society of Training & Development, internationally.

Sid is the author of four books and the co-author of another, as well as many papers & articles on NLP. He is just finishing a sixth book, as well. Sid is considered to be an expert in the application of NLP to education and training, psychotherapy and communication skills. He has been training professionals for over 20 years.

He holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The Professional School of Psychological Studies, as well as a Masters in Social Work from Tulane University, where he also did his undergraduate work in psychology.

Sid currently consults and trains throughout the U.S., South America, Canada, Europe and Asia. He has worked extensively in Singapore and Malaysia, where he has been conducting a wide variety of training, design and consulting services for over six years. These include in-house NLP training programs for major corporations like Singapore Airlines, Western Digital and Yokogawa Electric in addition to government agencies like the National Computer Board, Housing Development Board, Trade Development Board, Service Quality Centre, Land Transport Authority and the Ministry of Health. He has also worked with many local schools in Singapore, Polytechnics and Universities, banks, hospitals and social service agencies. He has also worked extensively in Canada, the UK and South America as well as throughout the United States. In the U.S. he has worked with many small businesses and organizations and large ones including Jackson National Life Insurance, DuPont Pharmaceuticals, Habitat for Humanity, Shell, Maersk Sealand and Case New Holland in addition to schools, government bodies,universities, banks, hospitals and social service agencies.
